Tarragona’s new loading and unloading zone management system has drawn interest from other councils in Camp de Tarragona, three months after it began. The scheme, which restricts lorries and vans from Plaça de la Font, recorded 43,558 parking operations between March and May, according to Tarragona City Council.
The council says its assessment of the system is positive and, for now, it does not plan to change the distribution of parking spaces. The move follows early criticism from transport companies over access restrictions in Plaça de la Font.
Transport companies that objected to the changes still have concerns, but officials said they do not plan any new actions at this stage.
The council says the system’s performance in Tarragona could inform similar measures in nearby towns, with the aim of improving traffic flow and pedestrian space in urban centres.
