Joint Operation Recovers 95 Stolen Motorbikes
Agents from the Mossos d'Esquadra's Citizen Security Unit at Martorell have recovered two trailers containing 95 stolen motorcycles and scooters in Cahna de Mar, France. The vehicles had been taken during a theft in Masquefa late on Sunday 27 September. The suspects, two Romanian nationals aged 38 and 39, allegedly broke into a car park in Masquefa and drove off with two articulated trailers loaded with nearly 100 new mopeds and motorbikes, including models from Italian and French brands such as Vespa and Piaggio.
The hidden GPS in some of the bikes allowed authorities to track the convoy across the border.
Thieves disabled one tracking system and dumped registration documents and number plates in an open area near Masquefa to avoid detection. However, a concealed GPS in several of the stolen motorbikes enabled real-time monitoring of the convoy’s movement toward France.
International Cooperation Leads to Arrests
Through rapid international coordination, officers from the French National Police at the Cahna de Mar station located and intercepted the two towing vehicles. The trailers were being pulled by vehicles displaying falsified Romanian licence plates. Both drivers were arrested on suspicion of aggravated theft. All 95 vehicles were recovered intact and will be returned to their owners in Catalonia. This operation was coordinated through the Centre de Cooperació Policial i Duanera (CCPD) at El Pertús, a cross-border hub where Catalan, Spanish, and French law enforcement agencies operate jointly. The investigation continues under the Local Judicial Police Service in Cahna de Mar, in coordination with Catalan authorities, to determine whether the suspects are linked to a wider criminal network.
