Students to Receive Award for Creative Gaudí Tribute

A group of former sixth-grade pupils from Escola Els Ganxets in Reus will receive a top prize at the Sagrada Família in Barcelona this Saturday, 3 October 2026, as part of a regional educational initiative marking the completion of the Temple’s Tower of Jesus Christ. The award is part of the school project GaudilAR’T, developed during the 2025–2026 academic year to commemorate the centenary of Antoni Gaudí’s death. The students’ submission, titled the 'Tower of Values', was one of ten winning entries selected from 56 proposals submitted by 34 schools across Catalonia. Their project explored core values such as cooperation, effort, and teamwork, qualities they linked to the collective effort behind the construction of the Sagrada Família. Inspired by Gaudí’s architecture, the pupils designed and built a physical model of a tower where each structural element symbolised a shared value.

Technology Meets Art and Education

The 'Tower of Values' incorporated interactive technology: a LED strip programmed to illuminate the tower’s peak, activated by a motion sensor. This feature transformed the artwork into an engaging, responsive installation. The entire creative process was documented in an audiovisual presentation featuring a voiceover generated using artificial intelligence. The script was written entirely by the pupils, reflecting their journey from initial research into Gaudí’s life and work to the final construction of their symbolic tower.

This recognition celebrates not just creativity, but the power of collective learning and student-led inquiry.

The broader educational competition, La Sagrada Família, una obra col·lectiva que arriba al punt més alt del temple. Entre tots hem fet el cim! (The Sagrada Família, a collective work reaching the highest point of the temple. Together we made the summit!), involved 2,345 pupils across Catalonia. It was promoted by the Sagrada Família as part of its integrated art and education programme.

Pride for Reus School Community

Although the project was completed during the previous school year, the official recognition takes place today. A delegation of former Year 6 pupils will travel to Barcelona to accept the award on behalf of their entire cohort. According to the school’s official website, the prize is the first in its category for upper primary education, underscoring the quality and originality of the students’ interdisciplinary approach. For Escola Els Ganxets, the award marks a meaningful conclusion to a school-wide focus on Gaudí’s legacy, combining history, art, technology, and ethics in a single, impactful project.
