Móra d'Ebre's Escola Lluís Viñas i Viñolas celebrated its 80th anniversary this past weekend with a large community gathering, marking eight decades of public education in the Terres de l'Ebre town. The event, a highlight of the "Cultural Spring 2026" programme, brought together current and former students, retired teachers, and local residents.
The festive occasion, held at the school's premises, featured a range of activities designed to foster community spirit and reminisce over the school's long history. Attendees enjoyed a popular chocolate party, explored exhibitions showcasing the school's past and present through photographs, and participated in a special reunion and photocall for former students and retired teachers. Younger guests were entertained by inflatables, while performances by the Móra d'Ebre Giants and the Sheron Devils group added a traditional Catalan flair. Live music from Dual Lovers and a selection of food trucks further enhanced the celebratory atmosphere, strengthening the bonds within the community.
Mayor of Móra d'Ebre, Rubén Biarnés, underscored the school's fundamental importance to the town's development. "Escola Lluís Viñas i Viñolas is not just an educational centre, but the heart of our community, where entire generations have learnt and grown," Mayor Biarnés stated. He added that "all the teaching staff, families and students have made this 80-year legacy possible, and today we celebrate together its fundamental role in the formation of future citizens."
Enhancing Learning and Sustainability
Mayor Biarnés also highlighted recent public investments aimed at making the school more sustainable and comfortable. According to the Mayor, solar photovoltaic panels have been installed to reduce energy consumption and promote sustainability. Additionally, €25,000 from participatory budgets have been approved for air conditioning units, which will improve comfort and the quality of the learning environment for hundreds of students. "We are firmly committed to quality education and to fighting climate change," he affirmed.
The 80th anniversary celebration was a central part of Móra d'Ebre's broader "Cultural Spring 2026" programme, which features over 200 scheduled events. This extensive cultural initiative, running until 3 May, includes a diverse array of activities such as book presentations, conferences, talks, film forums, environmental activities, film screenings, theatre productions, auditions, workshops, and parties, reflecting the town's ongoing commitment to cultural enrichment and community engagement.
