Barcelona has been the scene of four targeted attacks, resulting in three murders and one attempted killing, over the last nine months. These incidents are part of an open war between the Kavac and Skaljari Montenegrin clans, which has led to 80 deaths worldwide, according to Sasa Djordjevic, a senior analyst at the Global Initiative against Transnational Organised Crime.

The executions in Catalonia were well-planned, involving armed men who approached their targets discreetly and fired at close range. Mossos d'Esquadra, the Catalan police, have not arrested any perpetrators. Investigators believe these professional hitmen, either clan members or hired by them, travelled to Barcelona by road to carry out the killings and then left the country the same way, leaving no fingerprints or DNA evidence. Solving these crimes, currently under judicial secrecy in Catalan courts, will require international police cooperation.

First Incidents in the Catalan Capital

The first episode in Barcelona's clan war occurred in July 2025. Filipu Knezevic, 36, a Kavac clan hitman, was shot dead on Consell de Cent street. Police found eight shell casings, with four hitting the victim, three in the chest and one in the head. The assassin waited hidden inside a building entrance. Knezevic was a suspect in the 2020 murders of two rival mafiosi on the Greek island of Corfu.

Days later, on 2 August, Predrag Vujosevic, a member of the Skaljari clan and part of the 'Pink Panthers' international jewel theft network, was shot while walking his dog on Urgell street in the Catalan capital. He survived the attack. Vujosevic, known as 'Marko', was serving a sentence in Barcelona but had some freedom under a third-degree prison regime. He only returned to prison from Monday to Friday to sleep at an open centre in La Trinitat. He was serving time for drug trafficking in the Canary Islands in 2021, where he was arrested for attempting to distribute 408 kilos of cocaine with others.

Further Killings and Latest Attack

The second fatal victim was Milan Milic, also allegedly a Skaljari clan member. He was shot dead on 22 December in Castelldefels, a municipality near Barcelona. The hitman fired four shots at point-blank range and disappeared, with Mossos unable to locate him.

The most recent chapter took place just two weeks ago, on 14 April. At around 4pm, two men dressed in black shot Krsto Vujic, known as 'Terminator'. Vujic was having a drink on a bar terrace on Passeig de Taulat, near Diagonal Mar in the Poblenou neighbourhood. He was sitting with a woman and a small child. Vujic was admitted to a Barcelona hospital in critical condition and died a week later. Krsto “Terminator” Vujic was also a member of the Skaljari clan.

Authorities face a significant challenge in apprehending the perpetrators of these highly organised crimes. The reliance on professional hitmen who enter and exit the country swiftly by road makes local investigations particularly difficult. Future progress in these cases will likely depend on intelligence sharing and collaborative efforts with law enforcement agencies in other countries where these Montenegrin clans operate.
