Mollerussa, in Lleida province, has launched Contes al carrer: Històries que ens uneixen, a storytelling series designed to support social cohesion and mutual understanding through oral tales, according to Mollerussa City Council.

The first session took place on Thursday, 5 June 2026, in the courtyard of Cal Jaques. It drew a strong turnout, mainly families with children, for an event focused on cultural diversity and shared stories.

Three tales were presented from different cultural backgrounds, the Polish legend of the Wawel Dragon, the Senegalese fable of The Hare and the Hyena, and the story of Lo Parrot, a well-known local bandit from Mollerussa's collective imagination.

The project grew out of several months of community work involving municipal services, educational bodies and cultural groups in the town. Before the launch, participants also took part in training at the Jaume Vila Comarcal Library, led by storyteller Ramona Térmens.

Organisations involved included the Senegalese Association of Mollerussa and Comarca, the Polish Association, the Unim Cultures Association, the Malian Immigrants Association of Mollerussa, the l'Arreu Popular Centre, the Municipal Senior Centre and the Adult Training Centre.

Following the positive response to the first session, the series will continue in September with two more dates, on 3 and 17 September. For more local civic coverage, see our news page.
