The Jardins Castelló care home in Mollerussa officially opened on Wednesday, 14 May 2026, with the Generalitat announcing plans to incorporate the facility into Catalonia's public social services network. This step, celebrated by local officials, is expected to lead to publicly funded places once budgets are approved, according to the Generalitat's Secretary General for Social Rights and Inclusion, Raúl Moreno.

The inauguration ceremony saw attendance from several key figures, including Mollerussa Mayor Marc Solsona, President of the Pla d'Urgell County Council Carles Palau, Government Sub-delegate José Crespín, and Lleida Provincial Council representative Fermí Massot. The Generalitat has received all necessary documentation to start the process of integrating the facility, which could happen in the coming days.

Mayor Solsona welcomed the news, acknowledging the work of institutions and praising the local investor group behind the project. He described the care home as an "obra amb propòsit" (work with purpose) that offers elderly residents the chance to "envellir dignament a la ciutat" (age with dignity in the city).

Facility Details and Services

Jardins Castelló provides 144 residential places and 50 day centre places. The facility began operating progressively in mid-February and currently accommodates around 40 residents. The care home focuses on personalised, high-quality care for both residents and day centre users.

The official opening event brought together residents' families and representatives from third-sector organisations. Attendees had the opportunity to tour the facilities and learn about the centre's care model.

Looking ahead, the integration into the public network will depend on the approval of future budgets, which will then allow for the formal agreement of public places. This move is a significant step towards expanding accessible care options for the elderly in Mollerussa and the surrounding Pla d'Urgell region.
