Officials from the Catalan government and Mollerussa City Council met in Mollerussa on 10 April 2026 to coordinate on key local projects, including the removal of railway level crossings and educational improvements.

The meeting, described as pioneering for its bilateral format in the Lleida region, focused on several joint initiatives. A primary concern was the process to eliminate level crossings on the Manresa to Mollerussa railway line. Discussions also covered reactivating the preliminary study for the Orbital Road, specifically the section between Fondarella and Miralcamp.

Education was another significant topic. The Department of Education and Vocational Training's financial cooperation programme, which allocates €100 million across Catalonia for school renovations and improvements, was detailed. This funding will be distributed to public schools based on student numbers and building age, supplementing the department's regular maintenance work at Generalitat-owned public centres.

Addressing Local Staffing Needs

The provision of an auditor for the Mollerussa City Council was also addressed. The council sent a request to the Directorate General of Local Administration in late March to secure an interim auditor from its pool. The Generalitat will announce the outcome once the application period ends in the coming days.

The session was chaired by Núria Gil, the Government Delegate in Lleida, and Marc Solsona, the Mayor of Mollerussa. This marks the first such bilateral meeting with a regional capital in the Lleida vegueria. The Generalitat's territorial management council in Lleida participated, alongside seven councillors from Mollerussa's government team, led by the mayor.

Strengthening Local Cooperation

The Catalan government promotes these meetings to strengthen its cooperation agenda with local authorities. Núria Gil stated that this format “allows for much better progress alongside municipalities in improving public services, the quality of life for people, and the economic revitalisation of the territory.”

Mayor Marc Solsona expressed a positive view of the meeting. He noted that “issues affecting the daily lives of our citizens have been addressed, and we hope they can be resolved. We now have a roadmap and a clear guide to establish this formal working relationship.” The collaboration aims to provide a structured approach to ongoing and future projects.
