Barcelona is urgently seeking a company to take over security at Castell de Montjuïc after contractor Security Services Kuo entered insolvency proceedings, according to reporting by Metrópoli Abierta. The situation could affect the continuity of guard shifts at the hilltop heritage site, which is managed by the Institut de Cultura de Barcelona (ICUB), the city’s cultural institute.
Security Services Kuo holds contracts that include security guards at the castle. ICUB sources told Metrópoli Abierta that the institute is working to resolve the issue.
Administrator warns that guard cover cannot be guaranteed
Earlier this month, the insolvency administrator wrote to Madrid Commercial Court No. 3 after failing to find a buyer for the company, Metrópoli Abierta reported.
“The insolvent company cannot ensure the proper performance of the contract, nor cover all surveillance shifts and posts, because of the lack of available staff and the impossibility of bringing in new resources during the current liquidation phase.”
The warning concerns the company’s ability to continue meeting its contractual obligations while it is being liquidated.
ICUB manages the castle
Castell de Montjuïc is a heritage facility of ICUB and is managed through the institute’s Cultural Heritage Directorate and central services, according to the castle’s official transparency page.
