La Jonquera native Mireia Vera, a former goalkeeper, is balancing her career as a teacher with her role as a football commentator and analyst for major Catalan media outlets. Vera, who previously played for Llers, Cornellà del Terri, and Santa Eugènia, is part of the broadcast team covering Pere Romeu's Barça women's team for TV3, Catalunya Ràdio, and RAC1.
She works alongside Gemma Mallorca from Molins de Rei and Laura Brugués from Figueres. Vera's commentary work includes the upcoming Women's Champions League final in Oslo, which passes through Camp Nou this Sunday where Barça will play Bayern at 16:30, following a 1-1 draw in the first leg at the Allianz Arena.
"Until recently, I was coaching a team, but now I've chosen to take a break from the benches and focus more on television and radio," Vera explained. "At this point in the season, I am very focused on the media, school, and my daughters. This way, I can have a more external and comfortable view of football because I am not emotionally involved with any team, nor do I experience the day-to-day." She added that seeing things from the outside can be easier, though she always tries to be careful with her opinions. "I know that coaches do a lot of unseen work, and results don't always follow," she said.
Vera's Analytical Approach
Vera also follows other teams, including Girona, Manolo González's Espanyol, Hansi Flick's Barça, and the Badalona Women and Sara Monforte's Espanyol. This broad engagement helps her professional development. "It's a constant learning process, and I get to see the evolution of teams, their coaches' ideas, what moment they are going through," she stated. "It also helps me improve as a coach."
Her experience as a former player gives her a unique perspective on the game. By stepping away from direct involvement with a team, Vera believes she can offer more objective analysis to her audiences across various platforms.
Future Focus
Moving forward, Vera plans to continue her work in media, combining her teaching responsibilities with her growing presence as a football analyst. Her current focus remains on providing insights into the sport while maintaining a balanced professional and personal life, particularly during critical periods like the Women's Champions League final.
