In Manresa, Neus Català i Pallejà Square has been resurfaced with asphalt as part of the ongoing Guimerà street reurbanisation project. The work was carried out on Tuesday, 2 June 2026, after the grey and white tiled pavement was removed last week.

The Manresa City Council says the aim is to connect the two sections of Àngel Guimerà street. One section is already complete, known as the Guimerà extension, while the other, between the square and Circumval·lació street, is still under construction. The asphalt finish matches the second section of the Passeig.

This week’s work covered the whole square, extending to the steps of Crist Rei church. The change leaves a broad asphalt surface in place of the more refined tiled pavement that was there until last week.

Work on this part of the square began on 25 May and forms part of phase 3 of the Guimerà street reurbanisation project, which aims to turn the street into a pedestrian zone. From Thursday, 28 May, until Tuesday, 2 June, the square was fully closed to traffic and fenced off.

During that closure, vehicles accessing the Casino area from the Pere III promenade lateral had to use Arquitecte Oms street, where the direction of travel was reversed. Vehicles left via Muralla de Sant Domènec.

The next stage of the project will focus on completing the connection between the square and Circumval·lació street. For more local updates, see our news coverage.
