Manresa residents saw a familiar landmark turned into a film set this week, as Netflix continued work on The Boys from Brazil at Casa Llisach in the city centre.
Jaume Pich, 83, and Ester Macià, who once owned Mobles Pich, visited the production on Monday. The couple previously lived and worked in Casa Llisach, which has been transformed for filming into the fictional Hotel Aurora and bar Do Galo.
The historic building stands between Carrer de les Piques, Plaça de Llisach and Passeig de la República. Pich said he was born there in 1943. He also said his grandfather founded Mobles Pich in 1905 on Carrer Sant Bartomeu, before the business later moved to Casa Llisach.
For the production, the area around Plaça Llisach was renamed Rua do Castelo to create a Brazilian street scene. The ground floor of Casa Llisach was also dressed as part of the set, giving the couple a chance to see their former home in a new setting.
The Boys from Brazil is based on Ira Levin's 1976 novel. It follows a Nazi hunter who uncovers a plot to clone Adolf Hitler. The filming has brought crews and actors to several locations in Manresa, with local residents gathering to watch the work.
Filming is expected to continue in Manresa for several more weeks. Local authorities are due to announce further location and schedule details as the production moves on. For more local coverage, see our news page.
