Manresa residents and Festa Major visitors will be able to attend a series of free or bookable art events from 19 August, including an exhibition bringing together seven writers and visual artists at the Casino. The programme also places a permanent sculpture at the start of the old Rajadell path and Pla de la Mina, adding a new stop to the Green Ring's evolving outdoor art route.

The exhibition L'escriptura en el relat artístic opens in the Casino's main hall on Thursday 27 August at 8pm and runs from 28 August to 25 October. It brings together Irene Solà, Alicia Kopf, Laura Torres Bauzà, Marla Jacarilla, Almudena Llobera, Anna Dot and Rita Puig-Serra.

Curated by art historian and critic Mercè Alsina, the project first opened at Fundació Palau in Caldes d'Estrac four years earlier. It examines how writing can be used in artistic narratives, including as a way of questioning power and the structures that shape public discourse.

Three exhibitions open around the Casino

The official Festa Major programme lists several visual-art events at and around the Casino cultural centre:

  • The verdict of the 96th Concurs Exposició d'Artistes Manresans, a long-running Manresa artists' competition organised by Centre Cultural el Casino and Cercle Artístic de Manresa, will be announced at Espai 7 at 7.30pm on Thursday 27 August. The exhibition of entries will remain open until 13 September.
  • Cercle Artístic de Manresa will open an exhibition by local painter Rafael López Pozo, born in Manresa in 1940, at 8pm on Friday 28 August. The show, which includes watercolour, oil and pastel works, runs until 18 September.
  • The Casino Library foyer will display the five winning works from the 2025 Festa Major photography competition, alongside a selection from the 68 photographs submitted by 19 photographers. The exhibition opens on 19 August and closes on 5 September; the prize verdict will be read at 7pm on 27 August in the Casino's assembly hall.

Permanent sculpture joins the Green Ring art route

The seventh Microscopies art-and-nature festival will install a permanent sculpture by Rufino Mesa at the start of the old Rajadell path and Pla de la Mina. Each edition places a sculpture at a point on Manresa's Green Ring, known locally as the Anella Verda, to build an outdoor route over time, while also presenting temporary interventions.

The festival, directed by Roser Oduber and organised by Manresa City Council and Cercle d'Art Contemporani i Sostenibilitat El Forn de la Calç, opens at 6pm on Friday 28 August. Visitors can also attend on 29 and 30 August.

Museum to reveal archaeological object

The 35th Descoberta event will present an archaeological object found during refurbishment works at the Museu de Manresa. Historian Francesc Comas Closas will lead the 7pm event, followed by a visit to the new spaces and reserves in the former Santi Ignasi school building.

Attendance requires advance booking through Museu del Barroc.
