Barcelona police arrested a 23-year-old man in El Raval on Monday, 18 May, after an alleged stabbing during a street fight in the city centre. The incident happened around 6pm on Carrer de la Cera, near the junction with Ronda de Sant Pau, according to ElCaso.com.
Emergency services were alerted through the 112 phone line. When Mossos d'Esquadra officers arrived, they found one man bleeding from a stab wound to the arm. The Sistema d'Emergències Mèdiques, SEM, was called and the injured man was taken to hospital.
Police arrested the suspect, who has three previous police records, on suspicion of assault. Investigators are still working to establish exactly what happened and to rule out whether anyone else was involved. Initial reports suggest only two people took part, the injured man and the arrested suspect.
The case comes after several violent incidents in El Raval in recent weeks. On 2 May, Mossos d'Esquadra arrested a minor over the alleged fatal stabbing of a man on the same street. ElCaso.com reported that the victim had just committed a robbery before the attack.
On 5 May, a 41-year-old man was attacked with a knife in Plaça del Pedró, close to Carrer de la Cera, during another fight. The victim suffered minor injuries and was taken to hospital. Catalan police opened an investigation to find the attacker. On 13 May, two people snatched a gold chain from a pedestrian near the Jardins de Sant Pau del Camp after distracting him with questions, and Barcelona’s Guàrdia Urbana arrested one suspect while the other escaped.
