A man died on Saturday afternoon, 16 May 2026, after being shot multiple times in the street in La Marina de Port, Sants-Montjuïc, Barcelona. The incident occurred around 7:15pm on Carrer de la Mineria, according to witnesses.
Witnesses told ACN that the assailant fired several shots at the victim from behind, with at least one hitting his head. The attacker then fled on foot, hiding the firearm and walking towards Gran Via along Carrer de la Química. Officers from the Mossos d'Esquadra's Criminal Investigation Division have taken charge of the case.
Police officers who arrived immediately tried to revive the man, but were unsuccessful. Although the police sealed off the area, many people were passing by at the time and became aware of what was happening. Videos of the scene soon began to circulate.
Organised Crime Links Investigated
The nature of the killing, described as a cold-blooded execution, suggests a possible link to organised crime. Barcelona has seen several violent incidents in recent months, believed to be connected to rival Balkan gangs.
Just three weeks prior, on 24 April, a man was seriously injured after being shot multiple times in the early hours in the Sants-Badal neighbourhood, between Carrer de Sugranyes and Carrer de Casteràs. Ten days before that, on 14 April, a person was critically injured after being shot on Passeig del Taulat. That victim later died in hospital, and the Mossos are investigating the incident as a revenge attack between rival Balkan clans. Towards the end of last year, on 11 December 2025, a person was also seriously injured in a shooting on Carrer d'Espronceda, near Avinguda Meridiana.
Most of these murders or attempted murders are thought to be linked to the death of a man in his 40s on 15 July, who was shot in the head inside the entrance of an Eixample building. At the time, reports suggested a confrontation between Montenegrin gangs, specifically the Kavač and Škaljari clans, who have been feuding over drug-related matters for years.
Authorities continue to investigate the connections between these violent events. The Mossos d'Esquadra will provide further updates as their enquiries progress, aiming to bring those responsible for the recent wave of violence to justice.
