A man died from electrocution on the Rodalies R4 line in Barcelona early on Friday, 24 April, leading to the suspension of services between Martorell and L'Hospitalet de Llobregat.
The incident, which occurred around 4am, forced the complete halt of railway traffic in both directions on that section of the line, according to infrastructure manager Adif. Train circulation was specifically interrupted at the request of the Mossos d'Esquadra, Catalonia's police force, between 6:27am and 6:54am.
Emergency Response and Service Disruption
Catalonia's Civil Protection agency activated the pre-alert phase of the railway emergency plan, Ferrocat, as a preventative measure due to the severity of the incident and the interruption to transport services. This protocol helps coordinate responses during significant railway disruptions.
Adif later announced on its official X account that full circulation had been restored on the affected line. Despite the tracks being clear, the company explained that trains would gradually return to their normal frequencies and schedules as accumulated delays were absorbed throughout the morning.
Following the guaranteed resumption of train traffic and the normalisation of the situation on the tracks, Civil Protection deactivated the Ferrocat pre-alert, concluding the incident response.
No further details have been released regarding the exact circumstances surrounding the electrocution.
