A violent stabbing incident occurred on Wednesday evening, 5 August, in Puigcerdà, in the Cerdanya region, when a 33-year-old Maghrebi-origin man allegedly attempted to kill a 13-year-old girl by stabbing her. The attack took place around 9 p.m. near the Font del Cucuru area.
Emergency services, including patrols from the Mossos d'Esquadra and Puigcerdà Local Police, were dispatched to the scene, along with ambulances from the Sistema d'Emergències Mèdiques (SEM). The teenager, who is French and unrelated to the suspect according to initial reports, was treated at the scene before being transferred to hospital.
Despite the severity of her injuries, her life is not in danger.
Arrest and Ongoing Investigation
The suspect fled after the attack but was apprehended hours later by Catalan police during a search operation across the town. He has been taken into custody and remains at the police station awaiting judicial proceedings.
The investigation by the Mossos d'Esquadra is ongoing, and no motive has yet been confirmed.
