Lloret de Mar notary and alpinist Jordi J. Fugardo Pelliser has reached the summit of Mount Everest, adding another major step to his Seven Summits challenge. The climb places the Girona-area mountaineer close to completing the project, which involves scaling the highest peak on each continent.
Fugardo reached the top of the world’s highest mountain, which stands at 8,849 metres above sea level, after weeks of acclimatisation. He had been waiting for a favourable weather window before making his final push, according to local reports.
The Everest ascent is one of the most demanding parts of the Seven Summits project, a test of endurance, planning and high-altitude experience. Fugardo’s success means he is now near the end of that global mountaineering goal.
His return to Catalonia is expected in the coming weeks, when he is likely to share more details of the expedition. For more local coverage, see our news page.
