Lleida businesses are taking part in a climate shelter scheme as temperatures rise, with around 1,200 shops, bars and restaurants in the city and surrounding area opening their premises to the public.
The campaign was launched on 3 June 2026 by Pimec Comerç Lleida. It has the support of local trade and neighbourhood associations, as well as the Lleida Hospitality Federation.
This is the third year the programme has run, and participation has doubled compared with last year. Pimec says the aim is to give residents more places to rest and cool down during hot periods.
The private sector spaces are intended to complement the climate shelters already provided by public administrations. The scheme is designed to widen access to cooling spaces across Lleida and nearby areas.
