Residents in La Bordeta, Lleida, are holding a neighbourhood meeting today, 9 June 2026, after a violent incident last week involving squatters and an attack with axes and sticks.
The meeting, organised by the La Bordeta Neighbourhood Association, starts at 8pm at the civic centre on Avinguda Pla d'Urgell. The association says the aim is to inform residents, reassure the neighbourhood and give people a chance to speak.
Juanjo Gatius, president of the association, said the assembly is open to the whole neighbourhood and is intended to calm tensions after the disturbance. The incident happened last Tuesday when a homeowner went to their property after an attempted occupation.
According to the account given, an argument followed and the assailants chased and assaulted the owner. Neighbours and shopkeepers stepped in to defend the homeowner, after which the attackers left. They later returned armed with axes and sticks.
Mossos d'Esquadra, working with the Guàrdia Urbana, arrested three men and one woman, aged between 18 and 21, in connection with the attack. Three of the suspects had 20 prior police records for offences including violent robberies, intimidation, vehicle theft and petty theft, and one had a restraining order.
A judge ordered provisional detention without bail for all four suspects. Representatives from La Paeria and the Guàrdia Urbana are expected at today's meeting, and the organisers also hope Mossos d'Esquadra officials will attend to answer residents' questions about safety in the area.
