Lleida’s Arnau de Vilanova University Hospital has developed an artificial intelligence tool to help healthcare professionals manage and refer patients in its Accident and Emergency department. The platform, called GuardIA, was created by the company Useit and funded by the Provincial Council.
GuardIA will also be used by A&E teams at Pallars Hospital, Espitau Val d'Aran, Fundació Sant Hospital de la Seu d'Urgell, and primary care centres across Lleida and the Pyrenees. It is designed to help staff ask the right clinical questions so they can decide which care pathway is most suitable for each patient.
At present, the tool supports professionals dealing with oncological and ophthalmological cases in A&E. The hospital says plans are in place to add other specialities later.
The platform does not make diagnoses. Instead, it works as a clinical support system that brings together hospital protocols and gives recommendations based on medical criteria.
GuardIA also includes a map showing which centres are open and which offer services such as radiology or laboratory analysis. It also has a table with dosages for commonly used medicines.
