Lleida’s Paeria has approved a construction project to improve flood protection along the left bank of the Segre river, with the work centred on Camí de Granyana. The decision was taken on 28 May 2026 and aims to reduce flood risk and protect nearby urban areas during periods of high water.
The project includes adapting the existing wall along Camí de Granyana, resurfacing the road and adding two zebra crossings and eight speed bumps. A new section of wall will also be built near the Canal de Seròs floodgates, replacing the current enclosure and its base.
Officials said 260 shrubs will be planted in the area to improve environmental integration. The works also cover the pedestrian walkway through the Sèquia des Canals gully, south of Camí de Granyana, where an embankment will be built to stop water entering during floods. The bridge over the Sèquia de les Canals will have its pavement and protective fence renewed.
The affected wall section is 519 metres long, including 436 metres running parallel to Camí de Granyana. The design was based on topographic, geotechnical and hydrological studies, and is intended to ensure impermeability and structural resistance for water surges with a 100-year return period, and structural resistance for surges with a 500-year return period. It follows the Ebro Hydrological Plan and the Flood Risk Management Plan for the Ebro Hydrographic Confederation. More local news
The tender budget for the flood works is €733,404.76, and the estimated completion time is seven months. In a separate decision, the Local Government Board also approved the tender documents for a new service concession to manage Lleida’s Municipal School of Performing Arts, currently known as the Municipal Theatre Classroom.
The new model keeps theatre as the main focus, while adding audiovisuals, dance and circus. It will cover the regulated Advanced Vocational Training Cycle in Theatrical Acting Techniques, as well as workshops for children, young people and adults, including musical theatre. The school will also run summer camps, productions and other projects, and will work with other municipal schools and cultural companies. The new concession is due to start on 1 September, lasts two years and has a maximum tender budget of €756,750.80. Paeria Ebro Hydrographic Confederation
