Barcelona Junts municipal group president Jordi Martí has secured the endorsements needed to continue his bid in the party’s primary for the city’s municipal election. He said so in a post on X on 7 June 2026.

In the message, Martí thanked supporters and said the team had been the first to gather the required backing. He added that the campaign aims to put forward what he described as the best proposal for Barcelona.

Martí currently leads the Junts group on Barcelona city council and has the backing of former mayor Xavier Trias. He is presenting himself as the candidate to carry on the project that won the 2023 election.

Three other people have also declared their intention to run in the Junts primary: Glòria Freixa, Pilar Calvo and Jaume Alonso-Cuevillas. Freixa is a member of parliament and first secretary of the Catalan Parliament bureau, Calvo is a member of the Spanish Congress, and Alonso-Cuevillas announced his candidacy three days earlier after, he said, much thought and many conversations.

The primary campaign is due to run from 13 to 19 June. Party members will then vote on 20 and 21 June to choose Junts’ candidate for the municipal elections. For more local political coverage, see our news page.
