Human Towers Return to Barcelona Neighbourhoods This Weekend

Barcelona will host several human tower performances, known as 'castells', across its districts this weekend, 9 and 10 May, with local groups also travelling outside the city, according to betevé.

Three 'castell' events are scheduled for Saturday, 9 May, within the city. These include performances at Hospital Clínic, Plaça d'Osca in Sants, and Can Robacols in the Sant Martí district. On Sunday, 10 May, human towers will be visible in Sants, celebrating the anniversary of the Castellers de Sants, and in the Navas neighbourhood as part of its local festival.

Beyond Barcelona, several city-based 'colles' (human tower groups) will perform in the Baix Llobregat and Vallès regions on both Saturday and Sunday.

Saturday's Human Tower Events

On Saturday, 9 May, the Colla Castellera de l'Esquerra de l'Eixample will perform at 12pm in the Jardins del Doctor Duran i Reynals as part of 'Clínic Obert!'. Later, at 6pm, Plaça d'Osca in Sants will host the Castellers de Sants, Castellers d'Esplugues, and Colla Jove de Castellers de Sitges for the Castellers de Sants' anniversary eve.

Also at 6pm on Saturday, the Castellers de Barcelona will participate in the 'Cercavila de primavera' at Plaça de Can Robacols in Sant Martí. Outside Barcelona, the Castellers de la Sagrada Família and Castellers del Poble Sec will join the Castellers d'Esparreguera for their 32nd anniversary at 12pm in Plaça del Centre, Esparreguera. The Fira Modernista in Terrassa will feature the Castellers de Sarrià, Castellers de Cornellà, and Minyons de Terrassa at 6:30pm on Carrer Mare de Déu dels Àngels.

Sunday's Celebrations and Performances

Sunday, 10 May, marks the 33rd Anniversary of the Castellers de Sants, with a major performance featuring the Castellers de Sants, Colla Joves Xiquets de Valls, and Xiquets de Tarragona at 11:30am in Plaça de Bonet i Muixí, Sants. The Navas neighbourhood festival will also host the Castellers de Barcelona and Colla Castellera Encantats de Begues at 12pm in Plaça Ferran Reyes, Sant Andreu.

Further afield, the Diada de Sant Ponç in Sant Cugat del Vallès will see the Castellers de la Vila de Gràcia, Castellers de Sabadell, and Castellers de Sant Cugat perform at 11:30am or 12pm in Plaça d'Octavià. All schedules are subject to change, according to betevé.
