Girona and nearby areas, including Osona and Lluçanès, could face a daily waste treatment shortfall of 132 tonnes by 2030, according to a revised territorial plan for Catalonia.

The updated PINFRECAT35 says the gap would amount to 48,302 tonnes a year of residual and organic waste if no new infrastructure is developed. It warns that the current network will be under pressure within three and a half years.

The plan sets out €205 million in planned investment to help close the gap. That includes €55 million for a new facility at Girona's Integral Waste Valorisation Centre.

A further €150 million is earmarked for new rejection waste infrastructure, although the location has not yet been तय? determined. The roadmap is intended to keep treatment capacity in step with the region's waste needs as 2030 approaches.
