More than 1,000 educational centres across Catalonia, with Girona leading the way, have committed to boycotting school trips and excursions next academic year. A total of 1,048 schools have signed a manifesto from the 'Aturem sortides educatives' (Let's Stop Educational Trips) initiative, according to its website.
The territorial services with the highest number of adhesions are Girona, with 217 schools, followed by Maresme-Vallès Oriental (141), Vallès Occidental (123), Lleida (118), and the Barcelona Education Consortium (101).
Teachers Demand Systemic Improvements
Launched in February, the manifesto states that teachers will stop organising school trips and colonies until the Department of Education "implements real, structural, and effective improvements to the public education system".
Teachers describe this action as a "legitimate pressure measure" in response to a situation that "has dragged on for too many years and has become unsustainable". The initiative highlights ongoing concerns about the state of public education funding and resources.
