Girona has recorded 201 people sleeping rough this week, according to figures released by Girona City Council after a count carried out on Thursday night. The total is an 81% increase since 2024.

The latest count compares with 111 people two years ago. It adds to a clear upward trend in the city, with 86 people recorded in 2022 and about 60 in a 2016 count.

The data points to a growing homelessness problem in Girona, within Catalonia, as local services and housing support come under pressure. The council has not yet set out specific next steps in response to the new figures.

The figures are based on the city council count and have been published as part of the local authority’s monitoring of rough sleeping in Girona. Further discussion on social support and housing policy is likely to follow as the numbers continue to rise.
