Girona City Council is planning to return the historic Sant Feliu de Guíxols train engine to a public space in Girona, with Plaça d'Espanya or Parc Central under consideration. The locomotive was removed from Plaça d'Espanya in 2008 during works linked to the arrival of high-speed rail.

Municipal sources say the engine is currently stored in the city’s brigade warehouses in the Mas Xirgu industrial estate. Officials have not yet made a final decision on where it will be placed.

The locomotive is part of the old narrow-gauge railway line that linked Girona with Sant Feliu de Guíxols on the coast. That line operated for nearly a century before closing in 1969.

Putting the engine back in a public square would restore a visible piece of Girona’s transport history. It would also give residents and visitors a reminder of the railway connection between the city and the coast.

Further decisions are expected in the coming months, after ongoing urban reforms in the area are completed. For more local coverage, see our news tag.
