Girona City Council has extended its agreement for the treatment of municipal organic waste until 31 July 2027, keeping the service in place at the Solius plant.

The decision means Girona residents will continue to have their organic waste processed under the current arrangement. The Solius plant remains the facility handling this material.

The original agreement set out how Girona’s organic waste would be managed. By extending it, the council is maintaining continuity in a core municipal service.

This matters for waste collection and recycling across the city, because it reduces uncertainty over where organic waste is treated. It also gives the council more time to plan for future arrangements after 2027.
