Girona City Council is set to approve a major expansion of regulated parking across the city, with spaces expected to rise from 2,300 to around 13,000. The proposal is due to go before Monday's municipal plenary session and would bring new green, blue and orange zones to many streets.

The change would affect a large number of neighbourhoods, with some areas likely to lose a significant amount of free parking. The council's plan gives more space to resident parking in green zones, adds more blue zone spaces in commercial areas, and creates orange zones for vehicles from outside the city.

Green zones are intended to prioritise residents and give them dedicated parking close to home. Blue zones would support short-term parking in shopping areas, while orange zones would be used to manage demand from non-residents. The council says the aim is to improve access for residents and better organise parking across the city.

The proposal forms part of a wider effort to manage urban mobility in Catalan cities and reduce congestion. Girona has been discussing different parking options over the past year, and this is the most extensive plan put forward so far.

Further details on the exact locations, tariffs and operating hours are expected after the plenary session. Residents and visitors will need clear information before the new zones are introduced.
