In Girona, a bar on Carrer Ciutadans says it has suffered financial losses during filming for Amazon Prime Video’s Tomb Raider series, which is due to premiere in 2027. The complaint comes from El Cafè, in the city’s Old Quarter, where filming restrictions have affected some local businesses.
According to the bar’s statement, the presence of the film crew in the city centre has caused significant disruption to day-to-day trade. El Cafè has also criticised the handling of the situation by Girona City Council and by the production company involved.
The case has put a spotlight on the balance between major screen productions and local commerce in Girona. Businesses in historic areas can face short-term disruption when streets are occupied for filming, even when the city benefits from the profile that large productions can bring.
Girona has already been used for international filming, including parts of Game of Thrones. That history has helped make the city attractive to production teams, but it also leaves officials with the task of managing access, communication and support for affected traders.
