La Seu d'Urgell was the focus of the 37th Business Meeting in the Pyrenees, which ended on Friday with organisers saying geopolitics is having a growing effect on companies.

The event ran from Thursday and brought together more than 900 attendees. Montse Pujol, president of the Business Meeting, said in her closing speech that geopolitical changes affect several business areas, including energy costs, markets, investment decisions and competitiveness.

Pujol said many attendees had previously seen the world as stable and peaceful, but that what was once normal “may not be so normal anymore”.

AI was also discussed during the conference, along with tools for its use in business. Pujol said that “behind an AI, there are people”, and that this should be reflected in companies. She added that leadership, generational change, teams, trust and effort still matter, even as technology advances.

Pujol also described the new format for this year’s edition as a success. The meeting started on Thursday morning, rather than the usual Thursday afternoon, and ended on Friday lunchtime, earlier than in previous years. She said the change let participants leave on Friday afternoon without affecting attendance for the final speakers.

The 37th edition drew more than 900 attendees to La Seu d'Urgell, along with 60 accredited journalists. Twenty-one hotels in Alt Urgell and Andorra were occupied, according to Pujol. Speakers included President of the Generalitat Salvador Illa, former Italian prime minister Matteo Renzi, former EU foreign affairs chief Josep Borrell and Andorra's head of government, Xavier Espot.
