A freight train derailed near Cerdanyola Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB) in Vallès Occidental, disrupting services on the R8 Rodalies line between Cerdanyola UAB and Martorell. The incident, which occurred without any injuries, has led to an extended alternative road service for commuters.
According to ADIF, the train's locomotive and its first carriage left the tracks. Civil Protection confirmed that no one was hurt in the derailment. Renfe has had to expand its existing alternative road transport to cover the affected section of the line.
Service Changes for Commuters
Trains on the R8 line are currently starting and ending their journeys at Cerdanyola UAB station. The interruption between Cerdanyola UAB and Martorell remains in place. Authorities advise users to check Renfe's information channels for updates on how the disruption affects their travel plans.
This incident adds to the operational challenges on Catalonia's rail network. While the immediate focus is on restoring full service, the long-term implications for freight transport efficiency and passenger convenience on this route will be assessed.
