Weekend of Free Cultural Visits Across Lleida and Aran
This week, the Xarxa de Museus de les Terres de Lleida i Aran (XMTLA) is hosting four free events focused on architectural heritage in Vielha, Guissona, Tàrrega and Balaguer. The series, titled “L’arquitectura que exposa”, runs from Thursday 15 to Saturday 17 October and offers residents and visitors a chance to explore historic buildings and ongoing museum developments.
Thursday: Discovering Lost Architecture in Vielha
On Thursday 15 October at 6:00 PM, the Musèu dera Val d’Aran will lead a walking tour titled “Arquitectura tradicionau. Ara recèrca dera Vielha perduda”. The visit will highlight traditional Aranese architectural elements, historic houses and unique stonework, reconstructing how the streets of Vielha appeared a century ago. The event concludes with a tasting of local cheeses from Tarrau dairy.
Friday: Museum Construction and Ice Well Visits
On Friday 16 October at 7:00 PM, the Museu de Guissona will offer a behind-the-scenes tour of its new museum facility under construction. Following the visit, sommelier Jordi Martínez will host a wine tasting.
That same evening, the Museu Comarcal de l’Urgell presents “El pou del gel. L’arquitectura del fred” (The Ice Well: The Architecture of Cold) at 7:00 PM, 7:30 PM and 8:00 PM. These guided tours will take place at the upper end of Carrer del Pou del Gel in Tàrrega and include a tasting of wines from a Costers del Segre winery.
Saturday: Museum Renovation and Design in Balaguer
On Saturday 17 October at 6:00 PM, the Museu de la Noguera in Balaguer will host a guided visit exploring the history and renovation of its building, which was selected for the FAD Architecture Awards in 1996. The tour will cover the integration of the museum into the old town, exhibition room design and lighting techniques used to preserve and display artefacts from Pla d’Almatà and Castell Formós.
The XMTLA network comprises a dozen museums holding over 40,000 objects and works, according to the network’s coordinator Clara López, who highlights the often unseen professional work behind museum operations.
All events are free and part of a broader effort to promote cultural and architectural awareness across the region. The initiative is supported by the Patronat de Turisme de la Diputació de Lleida and aims to offer new perspectives on heritage spaces.
