Figueres will host the 13th Figueres Es Mou festival from 2 to 5 July, bringing dance to streets and squares across the city. Organised by the Agitart cooperative, the event is co-directed by Marià Llop and Georgina Avilés.

This year’s edition is described by Llop as entering its “adolescence”, with the aim of “maturing in community”. The programme will include about 80 dancers across 17 proposals, 15 of them performances.

Artists will come from France, different parts of Catalonia and the rest of Spain. Most of the events will be free, with organisers saying the festival is designed to make culture accessible to a wide audience.

Agitart is working with a range of partners, including Figueres City Council, the Fages de Climent library, Figueres a Escena and the Diòptria film club. It is also linked to our Catalonia news coverage and to A Cielo Abierto, a network of contemporary dance festivals in unconventional spaces.

At the presentation at Caputxins on Friday morning, Figueres mayor Jordi Masquef thanked Agitart for its work. He said there is “still a long way to go together”, and highlighted the value of free events that help socialise culture and make it available to everyone.

The festival’s focus on intergenerational dance is intended to bring different age groups together through movement, strengthening community ties in Figueres.
