Barcelona commuters and visitors using Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat de Catalunya, FGC, should expect extra trains on 9 and 10 June as the operator reinforces services for Pope Leo XIV’s visit to Barcelona and Montserrat.

On Tuesday, 9 June, FGC will add 20 services on the S1 and S2 lines, which connect Sant Cugat del Vallès with Barcelona and other parts of the Vallès area. On Wednesday, 10 June, eight extra services will run between 16:00 and 20:00, followed by 14 more from 20:00 until the end of service.

The changes are intended to handle higher demand linked to events during the papal visit, especially those connected with Montserrat Monastery. FGC says the reinforcements affect the Barcelona-Vallès line and will help manage passenger flow across the route.

FGC will also strengthen services on the Llobregat-Anoia line and the Montserrat Rack Railway. On 10 June, access to Montserrat Abbey will be only by the Aeri cable car or the Montserrat Rack Railway, and visitors will need a prior reservation through the Abbey’s website.

The transport company is advising people to use public transport for all scheduled events during the visit, to reduce private car use and ease congestion. For more local transport updates, see our news coverage.
