Falset, Priorat: The annual Falset Wine Fair concluded this weekend, serving 56,000 wine tastings. This figure is slightly lower than last year's, primarily due to unstable weather and intermittent rain, according to organisers.
Beyond the tastings, events held in Falset and other towns across the Priorat region were well-received, drawing a strong public response. Overall, an estimated 30,000 people attended various activities during the fair.
Carlos Brull, Mayor of Falset and president of the organising committee, highlighted the event's consistent appeal. "Ultimately, it's an event that year after year draws very similar visitor numbers," Brull explained. "Many wine lovers come from all over Catalonia and return. Falset is a mandatory stop on the calendar."
Driving Enotourism in Priorat
Brull emphasised the fair's role as a regional driver. He stated, "It has become a key tool for Priorat. It is a commercial fair, but also a great celebration of wine and the region, and a gateway for enotourism, with visitors from here and abroad."
The mayor also praised the attendees' profile. He noted, "It is an audience with interest and knowledge of wine, but there are also many young people, around their thirties, eager to learn more about the region, the varieties, and the wineries, and who consume wine throughout the year."
This interest was evident in the success of organised tastings throughout the weekend. Most of these sessions were fully booked, whether free or paid, and both in Falset and other Priorat municipalities.
Professional Day Continues
For industry professionals, the fair continues on Monday with a dedicated day at the apse of Falset Castle, from 10am to 3pm. Organised in conjunction with Priorat Enoturisme, the event has already registered approximately 200 participants, including distributors, restaurateurs, sommeliers, and other sector professionals.
The gathering will take place in a walk-around showroom format, offering free tastings and networking opportunities. It will bring together wineries from DO Montsant and DOQ Priorat, aiming to generate business opportunities and strengthen industry ties. Access is by prior registration with limited capacity and is reserved exclusively for professionals.
