A group of electric scooter users in Terrassa were recorded riding at night on the C-1415a road without the required lighting. The road links Terrassa with Castellar del Vallès, and the riders also wore dark clothing, according to Diari Catalunya.

This behaviour put their own safety at risk, as well as that of other drivers on the interurban road. The lack of proper illumination significantly reduced their visibility to oncoming traffic in the dark.

Safety Concerns on Interurban Roads

The C-1415a is a key connection between two significant towns in the Vallès Occidental region. Roads like this often have higher speed limits and less street lighting compared to urban areas, making visibility even more critical for all road users. Regulations for electric scooters typically require front and rear lights, especially when used during hours of darkness or in low-light conditions.

Authorities regularly remind users of personal mobility vehicles about the importance of adhering to traffic laws. These rules include using appropriate lighting and reflective clothing to ensure they are seen by others, particularly on roads shared with cars and lorries. The incident highlights ongoing challenges in ensuring compliance with safety regulations among electric scooter users, especially outside city centres.

Moving forward, local police and road safety campaigns may need to increase efforts to educate and enforce lighting requirements for electric scooters on interurban routes. This could help prevent accidents and improve overall road safety in the region.
