Residents in El Vendrell, Tarragona, helped Mossos d'Esquadra officers arrest a 54-year-old man on Wednesday evening after a shop break-in. The man, who has 45 previous police convictions, was caught trying to escape on a scooter.
The incident took place at approximately 8.10pm on Valentí Carné street. A Citizen Security Unit patrol responded to an alarm activation at a local establishment.
Upon arrival, officers saw a man exiting the premises through a window, intending to flee quickly on a scooter. However, several neighbours who witnessed the scene managed to stop his escape by hiding his vehicle until the Mossos arrived.
Suspect identified quickly
Officers immediately recognised the suspect due to his extensive record. They later confirmed that he had gained entry to the shop by forcing a window with a screwdriver, which he had with him when arrested.
The man was arrested as the alleged perpetrator of a robbery with force. He is expected to appear before a judge soon.
