El Vendrell, in the Penedès region, will mark International LGTBI+ Pride Day 2026 with a programme of events focused on awareness, reflection, culture and public participation. The initiative is organised by the Town Council’s Feminisms and LGTBIQ+ Rights Department, in collaboration with the El Safareig collective.
Silvia Vaquero, the councillor for Feminisms and LGTBIQ+ Rights, said El Safareig has helped raise the visibility of the LGTBIQ+ community. She also said the group contributes to a municipality based on respect, coexistence and equal rights. El Safareig is a podcast and collective that will speak with residents about the meaning of Pride Day and the challenges still faced by the LGTBIQ+ community.
The first event will take place on Monday, 22 June, at 7pm in Plaça del Tívoli. It will feature a live recording of the final episode of the second season of the El Safareig podcast, titled “Hate Speech and the Strength to Overcome It”. Organisers say a third season is already planned.
Another main event will be held at the Tabaris Building in Coma-ruga. On 25 June, at 8pm, it will host “Maricas todas” (All Queers), an LGTBIQ+ musical comedy. The show is brought to El Vendrell by local actor Raúl Heredia and his company, and it is currently touring Spain. The performance is free and open to all, and uses humour, music and advocacy to address diversity.
Residents can also take part in a survey for El Vendrell’s first Plan for Affective, Sexual and Gender Diversity. The survey is intended to gather views and needs to help shape future municipal policy in this area. For more local coverage, see our news page.
Beyond El Vendrell, El Safareig will also take part in Llorenç del Penedès’ first LGTBIQ+ event on 19 June. The collective will then join the “Safareig on Tour” programme in L’Espluga de Francolí, in a special joint edition with the Cardemcat podcast. The aim is to support rural pride and create spaces for meeting, reflection and celebration.
