Salt’s IPS-CUP municipal group will vote in favour of extending the management contract for La Mirona concert hall, according to Diari de Girona. The vote at Monday’s plenary session would keep the venue open after 25 June while the council prepares a new tender.
La Mirona is one of the main live music venues in the Girona area and a significant cultural space in Catalonia. The current extension ends this month, and without a new agreement the venue would formally stop operating from 26 June.
The issue had already come before the council last month, but the ERC and Junts governing coalition did not secure approval for the extension needed to keep the service running until 25 June 2027. The CUP’s support now gives the measure the majority it needs for immediate continuity.
Group spokesperson Roger Bigas said the party had told ERC and Junts that they were “late, and doing badly”, but added that the CUP wanted to seek majorities where possible. He said, “Our political objective has always been to advance as a town and as a country, especially if, as now, we can influence the text drafted for the specifications and the new regulations for La Mirona.”
The CUP also said that, despite breaking its governance agreement with ERC and Junts, it remains willing to “do politics to improve the town”. In the same statement, the group criticised the role of the government and the PSC after approval of the 2026 municipal budgets, referring to “moments of absolute disarray and misgovernance” by ERC, Junts and the PSC.
According to the newspaper, the Socialists had also shown willingness to negotiate the extension with the municipal government. The council is now expected to use the extra time to prepare the future service concession and the venue regulations, which will set the legal, economic and administrative framework for La Mirona.
The current contract dates back to an administrative lease signed on 9 October 2008 between Salt Town Council and RGB Music SL, after the council awarded it on 1 August that year. In 2012, several clauses were changed, including the duration, and the lease was set to end in 2025. La Mirona has two halls, with capacities of 1,730 and 450 people, plus an outdoor area and a terrace. Over the years, it has hosted concerts by national and international artists and remains central to the Girona music scene.
