CPA Olot will leave for Asunción, Paraguay, on Friday 9 October to contest the World Show Groups Championship, aiming for a 17th world title. The Olot team is scheduled to perform Soc addicte at 03:30 Catalan time in the early hours of Sunday 18 October 2026.

For supporters in the Garrotxa, the trip will involve an estimated club outlay of about €90,000. President Josep Sagués puts the cost at about €3,000 for each of the 30 travelling members directly linked to the club, with company and institutional support, plus fundraising raffles, covering part of the total.

The delegation will number about 40 people, including around 10 accompanying family members, skaters, coaches and club officials. It is due to depart at 16:00 on Friday, before taking a 21:00 flight from Barcelona via Madrid.

“It may seem like the same story every year, as though it were completely normal, and that simply by taking part we have to achieve what we have achieved 16 times before,” Sagués said.

Sixteenth title was won in China in 2025

The club’s own account records that CPA Olot won its 16th world gold medal in Yanquing, China, on 30 October 2025. The team won with Sí, vull, scoring 41.84 points.

This season’s large-group routine, Soc addicte, has already won in Catalonia, Spain and Europe, according to Diari de Girona. Choreographer Ricard Planiol and coach Ester Fàbrega again lead the sporting work.

World Championship newcomers in the current Olot group include Ona Burch, Laia Vila, Sofia Malikova and Lua Meira. The club says 105 different skaters had become world champions with CPA Olot by last season.

PA Figueres seeks to improve on fifth place

PA Figueres CE will also compete in Asunción, in the small show groups category. Its team will perform X Tu before the large-group competition in the same early-hours session on Sunday 18 October.

  • Its 24-person delegation includes athletes, club officials and accompanying supporters.
  • The estimated cost of the Paraguay trip is about €2,500 per person.
  • The team qualified after taking bronze at the Spanish championship.
  • It is aiming to improve on fifth place at last year’s World Championship in China.
“Going to the World Championship is a reward, and what we have to do is enjoy it and do what we know how to do,” said PA Figueres president Jordi Ricart.

The Figueres team’s result will be decided before CPA Olot takes to the rink in the large show groups event.
