The Correllengua Agermanat, a popular race carrying a flame to defend the Catalan language, will arrive in Reus, Catalonia, on the afternoon of 22 April. This marks the first time the initiative has passed through the city.

The flame is scheduled to enter Reus at 6pm via the Montblanc road and Marià Fortuny avenue, according to Reus City Council. A special event will take place at Plaça dels Ganxets (Ganxets Square), featuring the reading of a manifesto.

Cultural performances will also be part of the celebration at the square, including a dance by the Gegants Manotes (Manotes Giants) from the Colla Gegantera de Reus (Reus Giants Group) and the Gegants de l'Embruix (Bewitchment Giants) from Morell. The Xiquets de Reus (Children of Reus) human tower group will also perform a 'pilar' formation. Following the event, the procession will continue along Bellissens road towards Tarragona.

Promoting Catalan Culture and Language

The Correllengua Agermanat is a new initiative this year, aiming to promote and defend the Catalan language across the Catalan-speaking territories. It began its journey on 19 April in Prada de Conflent and is set to conclude on 5 May in Alghero, having traversed significant parts of Catalonia, Valencia, and the Balearic Islands of Mallorca, Ibiza, and Menorca.

Organisers of the Correllengua Agermanat have actively sought collaboration from various entities throughout the Catalan-speaking regions. In Reus, the event has received support from the City Council, officials confirmed.

Residents and visitors can participate in the Correllengua Agermanat by running, cycling alongside the flame, cheering on the procession, or attending the cultural event at Plaça dels Ganxets. Further information is available on the official website, correllenguaagermanat.cat.
