In Alt Empordà, the Architects' Association of Catalonia (COAC) is hosting a series of talks on community housing experiences as part of its “Síntesis Arquitectòniques” cycle. The first session starts tomorrow at 7pm and features the doctoral thesis “Cinc comunitats” by architect Jaume Farreny Morancho.
Farreny Morancho’s research examines five forms of community living in the Terres de Lleida. It focuses on five projects developed by architect Ramon Maria Puig between 1965 and 1980, using drawings to explain how the homes were planned and how they relate to the landscape, agricultural or urban settings, and the grouping of domestic units into communities.
Each case study has its own scale, programme and typology, but they share social patterns and ways of using public space. The research also looks at how the boundary between domestic and collective space can become less clear, based mainly on Puig’s archive, including original drawings, plans and written project documents.
The cycle continues on 11 June at 7pm at the COAC Garrotxa-Ripollès Delegation, where Félix de la Fuente will present his doctoral thesis, “Arquitectura comparada”. It will end on 18 June at 7pm at the COAC Girona Demarcation, with Anna Bach presenting “Alison i Peter Smithson, Axel Bruchhäuser i la Hexenhaus”.
These sessions are aimed at readers interested in architecture, shared living and the social use of space across Catalonia. For more local coverage, see our news page.
