Plans to convert the old Chartreuse factory in Tarragona into a museum and liquor storage facility remain on hold, according to sources. A year after an inspection of the site, both the Catalan government and Tarragona City Council are waiting for the company to advance its proposal.

The project aims to establish an interpretation centre dedicated to the production of the iconic Chartreuse liqueur in the city. This initiative would highlight the drink's historical connection to Tarragona.

Project Stalled for a Year

Officials told Diari de Tarragona that the project has been in a state of pause for a full year since the last site visit. The delay stems from the company's inaction in formalising the next steps for the proposed centre.

The Chartreuse liqueur has a significant heritage in Tarragona, where it was produced for many years. The proposed museum would serve to preserve this history and offer visitors insight into the distillation process and the brand's legacy.

Moving forward, the Catalan government and Tarragona City Council expect the company to present a concrete plan to restart the development of the interpretation centre. This next step is critical for the project to progress.
