Rural Agents in Catalonia have activated Level 3 of the Alfa plan, which means a very high fire risk, in 51 municipalities this Monday. The affected areas include Alt Urgell, Anoia, Noguera, Ribera d'Ebre, Segarra, Segrià, Solsonès and Terra Alta.
The alert comes as temperatures stay high and strong winds continue across much of Catalonia. Rural Agents are asking people to take extreme precautions, avoid any activity that could start a fire and call 112 immediately if they see smoke.
As a preventative measure, agents have closed and signposted recreational areas where fires are banned under the Alfa plan’s high-risk index. On Sunday, they were also monitoring leisure areas, including sites with barbecue facilities, in several municipalities, including La Granja d'Escarp in Segrià.
Rural Agents have already responded to possible incidents. A unit detected an incipient fire near a road in Guissona, in Segarra, and quickly alerted ground units and firefighters so it could be extinguished before it spread.
In Noguera, where Level 3 is also active, agents inspected agricultural harvesting machinery. They checked the condition of extinguishing and safety systems, general maintenance and compliance with fire prevention measures.
On Sunday, 30 municipalities in central and western Catalonia were also at very high fire danger, across Alt Urgell, Anoia, Noguera, Ribera d'Ebre, Segarra, Segrià, Solsonès and Terra Alta. Firefighters also responded to several small vegetation and undergrowth fires, including incidents in Sanaüja and Badalona, which are now under control. For more Catalonia-wide updates, see news.
