Catalonia will add 4,989 new vocational training places for the 2026-2027 academic year, as the Generalitat expands FP provision across the region. The plan was announced by Education Minister Esther Niubó during a visit to the Institut Miquel Biada in Mataró.

The new places will come through both new programmes and growth in existing ones. The ministry said the expansion will cover administration and management, physical and sports activities, sociocultural services, healthcare, hospitality, personal image, security and environment, building and civil engineering, and information technology and communications.

Six new training courses are also planned. These include a Security programme focused on the railway sector, Funeral Services, Glass Arts, and Canoeing in Calm Waters, which will be offered for the first time in a public centre. New specialisation courses will also be introduced in Cloud Resources and Services, and in Staff Coordination for Professional Meetings, Congresses, Fairs, Exhibitions and Events.

The Generalitat says it will invest €67.5 million to support the expansion. The funding will go towards infrastructure, technological innovation, programme rollout, and teaching and support staff.

The plan also includes 493 new staff posts. These roles are intended to support the extra training groups and to add new figures such as guidance counsellors and professionals focused on inclusive education.
