Catalonia has launched a new project to strengthen wine tourism across the region, with nine wine routes brought together under the Wine Routes Network. The initiative was reported by Segre.
The network includes 244 affiliated wineries and is designed to support wine tourism through four main areas, network collaboration, product structuring, joint promotion and shared data management. The Catalan Tourism Agency, ACT, is leading the project with support from the four Tourism Boards.
The nine routes are the DO Alella Wine Route, the Trepat and Conca de Barberà Wines Route, the DO Empordà Wine Route, the Lleida Wine Route, the Penedès Wine Route, the DO Pla de Bages Wine Route, the newly created DOQ Priorat-DO Montsant Wine Route, the DO Tarragona Wine Route and the DO Terra Alta Wine Route.
Penedès is the oldest of the routes, with 25 years of history. The project also aims to promote the culture, gastronomy and landscape linked to wine tourism across Catalonia.
Planned actions include campaigns aimed at international markets and operators, a promotional video and a visitor manual setting out requirements for enjoying the routes. Eurecat, the Catalan Technology Centre, will develop the Tourism Data System, TDS Winetour, to manage and process enotourism data and help anticipate market trends.
