The Catalan government presented its Climate Change Adaptation Strategy for Catalonia 2030 (ESCACC30) at the Global City Network for Sustainability (G-NETS) Leaders Summit 2026 in Tokyo, Japan. Agustí Fernández de Losada, Secretary for European Affairs, Multilateral Affairs and Development Cooperation, represented Catalonia at the event.
During his speech, Fernández de Losada emphasised that "climate resilience depends on the capacity of regions in territorial articulation". He cited Catalonia's management of drought, water security, and fire prevention as examples, according to a government statement.
Strengthening Asian Partnerships
The Generalitat delegation also met with officials from the Tokyo Metropolitan Government and the prefectures of Kyoto and Osaka. These meetings served to introduce the Asia Strategy 2025-2030, which identifies Japan as a key strategic partner, particularly in areas like technological innovation.
Before the Tokyo summit, Clelia Colombo, Director General for Multilateral Affairs, held institutional meetings in South Korea. She met with representatives from Seoul, Daejeon, and the GAROK association to look at collaborations in mobility, economic promotion, and academic exchange programmes.
The mission to Asia concluded with further meetings in Busan and Gyeonggi-do, South Korea. Discussions there focused on public health and technology sectors, including semiconductors, artificial intelligence, and green hydrogen.
