34 municipalities under extreme fire risk
The Rural Agents of the Generalitat activated level 4 of the Pla Alfa for extreme fire risk on Saturday, affecting 34 municipalities across 10 comarques in the provinces of Barcelona, Tarragona and Lleida. An additional 356 municipalities remain under level 3, corresponding to very high fire risk, according to a post on X by the Rural Agents. The activation follows forecasts made by Catalan officials on Friday and is part of the official annual fire prevention plan, the Pla anual per a la prevenció, vigilància i extinció dels incendis forestals de la Generalitat de Catalunya per a l'any 2026.
Pla INFOCAT and PROCICAT alerts remain active
On Friday, Civil Protection of the Generalitat activated Pla INFOCAT for fire risk and Pla PROCICAT for intense heat, in response to extreme weather conditions. Under level 4 of the Pla Alfa, all activities involving fire or sparks in forest areas and within a 500-metre buffer zone are strictly prohibited. Access to nine natural areas remains restricted to prevent accidental ignitions. Residents and visitors are urged to avoid any outdoor activity that could spark a fire.

The online tool, available at govern.cat, shows the current fire risk level by municipality and comarca, along with any active restrictions.

The Rural Agents and Civil Protection continue to monitor conditions and expect a slight reduction in affected municipalities in the coming days, though extreme risk remains in place for now.
